Story #10

Sorry, I was just kidding. This is not the tenth story, because I want this story to be the best. I need a lot of time to plan and write, and I'm doing some enjoyable summer camps and don't always have time to write. I hope you have a great summer.

Story #9

The Electric Bird
and the fire bird, the ice bird, and the earth bird, etc.

I'm Max. I'm like your every day average kid, well was your every day average kid, until now. Everything changed when I got this exotic pet. It all started when I was bird watching, which is a hobby I enjoy very much. For me, it was quite lucky when I saw a hummingbird, which is my favorite kind. Sadly, it didn't seem to have much control. I almost burst into tears when it hit a telephone pole and hit the ground. I saw a few sparks, and I was pretty sure the poor thing had just been electrocuted. Picking the bird up very carefully, I dashed into my house. I explained everything to my dad, and sprinted across the hallway to my garage, where we kept a spare cage for emergencies. It was hard to get the injured hummingbird into the cage, because this entire time I had been getting shocked somehow.

By the next day, John (my name for the bird) had began to glow a little. At the end of the week, he had a total change of color and was almost golden, with a few black spots and a few orange spots. It was rather odd, if you ask me. This bird became more strange though. I decided to let it out when it had healed, and you wouldn't believe what this bird did. He flew up, and flew right at the telephone pole. Digging his beak into the wire, the crazy hummingbird looked relaxed! What am I going to do with this thing, I thought. Then, an idea struck me. Maybe the scientists would know what to do. I ran to the giant lab at the edge of town.

Arriving in a few minutes, I sat down and told the geniuses everything that had happened. They decided they would do some tests on my bird, and see if it was okay. I was told to come back tomorrow and pick up John. The next day, which was a rather stormy one, I walked to the lab to get the bird. What I saw amazed me. My poor hummingbird was in a huge glass case that ran from the ceiling to the floor. The worst part was, the roof in that area was open, and John was very wet from all the rain that had just started pouring down. But suddenly, something very surprising happened.

It was unbelievable! (Despite the fact that most of this story doesn't make sense anyway). A lightning bolt flew threw the open ceiling and struck my beloved pet. But he didn't get hurt. My bird absorbed the lightning and grew. It became the size of a crow, no an eagle, no wait, an ostrich! It broke out of its glass confinement, picked me up, and flew up through the opening in the ceiling.
I'm dreaming. I'm dreaming. None of this is true. I did not just get dropped by a giant monster, which used to be a tiny hummingbird, from 50 feet in the air. But, unfortunately, I had been. I was falling. I wasn't going to live. Then, another large bird, this one was red and orange picked me up out of the skies and streaked through the air like a fireball. Okay, I'm going to close my eyes, and when I reopen them, I'll be in my bed. After that, I passed out.
When I woke up, I felt cozy. Good it was a dream. Maybe not. My bed was not brown, it was green. My pillow felt a bit harder than usual. I turned around. That's not a pillow, it's and egg! I scanned my surroundings. This was a huge nest. Four immense birds flew by and sat in the nest. I recognized two of them. One was the one that had saved me when I was dropped, and the other was my own humongous electric bird. I saw another that was green and brown, and one that was white, and purple. They seemed to be talking about something in bird language. Something odd happened after.
My bird flew up into a cloud, and came out as the same little hummingbird I had seen just a few days ago. The green and brown one hit the ground, and transformed into a crow. The red and orange one used its talons to rub sticks together, and create a fire that caused the creature to become a red tailed hawk. Lastly, the white and blue one went to the top of a mountain, and a snowy owl swooped back down to join the other birds, which had started to fly away. Then I realized something. Each bird seemed to relate to an element. The red one: fire, the white one: ice, the green one: earth, and mine: lightning and electricity. This is crazy. I am the luckiest person of man kind. I took another glance at the nest. Maybe the luckiest bird. Suddenly a thought came to me. If these birds are like this, what about the others? There are millions of birds on our planet, so what if they all have powers! And if I live with them long enough, will I get a power too?
Suddenly the egg that I had fallen asleep on began to crack. It broke open to reveal a little fluffy duckling. Or should I say, The Water Bird.

2 Great Events

This post, like many others, is about my community service group, Boys In Action. If you watched the mayor of Calabasas give his State of the City Address, then you know exactly what happened. My group was honored by the mayor! We all received gold medals and a plaque. Our group is now on television, and online! Check out this video to see what happened. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRwWMmb2KEI&feature=related
Very soon after, Boys In Action did a bake sale that had lemonade, 200 cupcakes donated by Suzie Cakes, and yummy pretzel treats to raise money to help fix the damage caused by the earthquake in Haiti. We raised a total of $500 in just a few hours! Please enjoy these pictures from both events.

Story #8

The Time Machine

Last year, the idea of having a time machine randomly popped into my head, so I decided to construct one. I found a cardboard box, wires, a joystick, and a calculator, which I chose to use while I was building my time machine. I also borrowed tools from my neighbors, and took some batteries that were sitting in a drawer at my house. Then, I began to create the time machine.

It took seven long months, working after school, or all day during the summer and on weekends. But, I finally completed it. My time machine was ready to use! First, I did a test. I put an apple inside the time machine and set the controls to a little bit further in the future. The time machine started shaking, and then disappeared all together!

An hour later, the time machine reappeared, and the apple was still inside it. I had succeeded! I wondered what I should do next with my time machine. I looked at the clock, and seeing it was 6:00 p.m., I went down for dinner.

"Did the time machine work?" my mom asked me.

"It sure did." I replied.

"Really? That's amazing!" she exclaimed, sounding like she didn't believe me. "Do you have any proof?" I handed her the apple from my experiment. Her mouth gaped open in shock.

My mom immediately called my dad and told him the news. Everyone else in my family found out the next day. I even told my dog, Charlie, about my time machine and how it works. I also told him the things you need to know, and the tools you need to have to build any kind of machine, though I don't really know why.

For some reason, Charlie began to take the tools that I used, and stayed near his dog house the next few days. Finally, Charlie started coming in the house again.

One sunny day, with Charlie by my side, I walked out to see if anything happened to the dog house. Charlie was outside, wagging his tail. But wait a second, Charlie was right next to me. I was petting Charlie, yet at the same time he was also out in the yard!

When I looked at the dog house, it was even worse. Multiple Charlies came pouring out of the dog house. All of the dogs were either playing with each other, playing with a toy, or licking me. I finally realized what had happened. Charlie took my advice, and built a duplicator!

Suddenly, I knew what I needed to do. I dashed back inside my house, and up the stairs with several Charlies after me. Once in my room, I closed the door, and jumped into my time machine. I set the controls for a time in the past that I knew I could stop this from happening. Then, the time machine shook, and everything went dark.

I practically burst out of the time machine when the shaking stopped. Slowly, I snuck out into the back yard, where Charlie was testing his duplicator. I flung myself into the machine, and ripped the whole thing apart from the inside. There was a sudden burst of light when I pulled apart a wire.

Immediately, I ran back to my room, despite the fact that I felt like I was being followed. I headed into the time machine, and traveled back to the present. When I was sure everything was okay, I took a break and relaxed.
At dinner that night, I walked downstairs to the kitchen. When I was half way down the stairs, I noticed that I was already sitting there! There was only one thing that could have caused this. I had accidentally duplicated myself.

Boys in Action; Hosting an Outstanding Carnival

Two days before Halloween, my community service group, Boys in Action, put on an entertaining Halloween carnival for the Canoga Park Boys and Girls Club. The Boys and Girls Club is an after school program which provides a place for children to go when a parent(s) isn't/aren't available to take care of them at the time. Some children need to stay there very late until they can be picked up.

Boys in Action set up all kinds of fun games like Monkey Mix-up, which is where someone moves cups all around and you have to guess which one has the monkey in it, and Putt-Putt Golf, which is pretty much like mini golf. There was also a game that a few friends and I were running which we called Stash the Cash, where you use a sticky hand to pick up fake money. Boys in Action hosted other games also. The children looked very happy and excited to have us put on a carnival, and are looking forward to us returning next year. It was an equally enjoyable experience both for Boys in Action and the Canoga Park Boys and Girls Club.

Here are some pictures from the event.

Story #7

In school, as a writing assingment, I wrote a Halloween story about me finding a monster. I thought it would be fun to share it with all of you. So, here it is, with an image of the monster to go along. Enjoy! Happy Halloween!

The Three-former

It was a dark and windy night, and I could hear the trees rocking back and forth. I decided to take a nice little stroll out in the woods. Leaving my friends by the campsite, I headed out.
After a while, I heard a faint noise.
“Boip, boip, boip.” is what it sounded like. I spun around in all directions trying to find out where the sound came from. Then, I heard it again.
“Boip, boip, boip.” Suddenly, a bush shook from side to side. I nervously walked towards the bush, and peeked through.
Boy, was I relieved! It wasn’t anything scary, not scary at all! Its big blue eyes, whiskers, chubby cheeks, short front legs, pointy ears, bumblebee-like wings, and round body made it especially cute. But, those long back legs and one small fang were not good signs.
“Boip boip.” it said again. But immediately, that cute noise turned into a roar, like this, “Rar!”, as it began…to…transform.
Its circular head became triangular, and its bumblebee-like wings became bat’s wings. The creature’s front legs grew as long as the back legs and its big blue eyes turned into small beady red eyes. Lastly, its whiskers disappeared, and it grew long sharp fangs.
Before I could really make sense of what was going on, the creature bit me. But, I don’t mean a small barely hurting bite. I mean it sank its teeth into my arm, and I started bleeding. My arm started stinging, burning, feeling sore, and just plain hurting all in one.
I started sprinting back to camp. The pain was spreading around my body, and suddenly, my vision was blurred. I couldn’t see anything clearly, yet I kept running. I have to admit, direction is probably my sixth sense, because even though I could barely see, I ended up back at our campsite anyway. Then, I told everyone what happened.
A few weeks later, after we had returned from our trip, my mom drove me to the scientists’ office. I discussed with them what the creature was like and all the other useful information. We thought of a plan to stop the wild animal.
Sometime later, I received a package and a note from the scientists.
The note said:

Dear Jonah,
Inside this package is the creature. We found it and captured it. But don’t worry, we created a device that should keep it in the form that will not bite you. You can have the creature as a pet. Nothing will go wrong.
From,
The Town Scientists

Life was outstanding after that. Having a nice pet, being friends with famous scientists, and being known by many people for discovering a new animal is the best life ever. Until one night, a very special night, that was exactly like the night when I found the creature.
It was dark and windy that night. I was reading in my room with the light of a small lamp because the power was out. I was also listening to my pet trying to talk to me.
“Hiep. Hie, hie, hie. Hi. Boip, boip, boip.” But suddenly, something hit my face. I looked at it. It was the device that the scientists had made. It had come off. Right after that, the creature started transforming as it jumped on top of me. I was nervous because the creature would probably bite again once it finished transforming. I was also furious with the scientists for making such a horrible mistake. I thought I was going to die. I tried to think of something I could do to get out of this situation.
Luckily, I thought of an idea. I dashed off my bed, and picked up my baseball bat. The creature flew towards me, and I swung the bat. The creature went flying out the window.
MISSION ACOMPLISHED! I had won. That animal was out in the streets now. It would never bother me again. But when I thought about it a bit more… … …
I had just doomed the whole entire town! What should I do? What should I do? I kept asking myself. At last, I thought of a plan. I picked up some supplies and walked outside.
I saw the creature. It was about to fly away! But, I was quick. I ran and jumped up, attempting to pull the creature down with a net.
Unfortunately, it didn’t work out. Instead of the creature being pulled down, I was pulled up. I went higher and higher until… … … the creature bit the net.
It all happened so quickly. The creature bit a hole in the net, and flew out. Now, there was nothing making me go up. I started dropping to the ground. It was like a death drop. I plummeted towards the ground. I was still falling! I really should have reached the ground by then, but I was still falling. I closed my eyes and hoped I would survive.
Almost like magic, I landed on something soft, and then suddenly, I started moving. I opened my eyes. Good, I was on a pile of pillows. Bad, I was still moving. I looked closely at the pillows. It read in small print:
Pete’s Pillows, delivered by truck. I was safe! I picked up my red watch to see the time. Wait a second… … red watch? My watch was blue! Suddenly, the watch jumped off my hand and began to grow bigger and bigger. It grew wings, fangs, and a spiky tail. Immediately, I realized what was going on. The creature had a nice form, a mean form and a watch form. Somehow, I thought of an idea. As the truck passed Willy Wonka’s Watch Factory, I tossed the partly transformed creature, which still looked mostly like a watch, into the rejected watch section.
The creature wouldn’t still be alive the next day, because the rejected watches got thrown away, broken down with a crushing machine, flattened with a sledge hammer, broken apart again, and finally, the pieces are used to make new watches.
The next day, I sued the scientists for making a device that failed. The mayor made me the new town scientist, because I did something that they failed to do.
Life was outstanding after that. But this time, I mean it!

Changes by the Month

You can see the picture of my dog Charlie at the top of the website, right? Well, each month I'm going to change the picture to something that relates to it. Depending on when you are reading this, I am going to change/have already changed the picture into Charlie in his Halloween costume.
What is your favorite month? Mine is November because my birthday is in that month, and it is in Autumn. Autumn is my favorite season. Also, Thanksgiving is in November, and Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. Thanks for reading!

Story #6 part two

If you recently visited my blog than you probably read the first part of Maple and the Case of the Surfing Ghost. If not, click on the squiggle before proceeding to the rest of this post. ~

Part two begins ... ... ... .... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... NOW.

"Fisher, Scruffy what should we do?" asked Maple to his friends. "Well," said Scruffy, "we should probably try to figure out what we're fighting, so we know what to use." "I can't believe I didn't think about this before," Maple mentioned, "but the thing that we are fighting should probably be in the title." "You mean Jonah's Jumbo Blog?" asked Fisher. "No." "Story #6 part two?" asked Scruffy. "No, no, no, no, and no." said Maple. "It's Maple and the Case of the Surfing Ghost. We have to fight a surfing ghost!" "Couldn't the author make something not as dangerous?" asked Scruffy.

"Well it doesn't matter now," interrupted Fisher. "because I found a bazooka! Let's blast it!" Everybody thought about that. "We can't do that. It will kill the suspense for our readers." said Scruffy. "Oh, come on." Fisher complained.
"Well let's get out there and do something." commanded Maple. "This is enough dialogue for now." The three friends set out to get a surfboard, and went out to sea. As they were about to catch a wave, they saw something. It was some weird shape on a board riding the waves. It was... the surfing ghost. Maple, Fisher, and Scruffy swam back to shore as fast as possible. "Man, that thing was huge!" exclaimed Fisher. "We have to find the wise man. He can help us." said Maple. "He lives on Drury Lane. Don't you know the song?"

"Do you know the muffin man, the muffin man, the muffin man. Do you know the muffin man, who lives on Drury Lane."

"Let's go to Drury Lane!" shouted Scruffy. An hour later, they rang the doorbell of the muffin man's house. When he answered, Maple said, "What do you have in stock? We need to defeat an evil ghost." "Well," the muffin man began, "I happen to have the most powerful muffin in Hawaii. It is ... ... ... the BLUEBERRY MUFFIN!" "Great!" said Maple. How much does it cost?" "$1,000,000." "That's worth it." Maple didn't know exactly what would happen, but he knew that the blueberry muffin was magical in some sort of way. "Hey, do you guys want a chocolate chip muffin?" asked the muffin man. "Oh, goody!" shouted Scruffy."I've always wanted to fly!" "Actually," informed the muffin man, "the cinnamon muffins make you fly." "Darn." said Scruffy.
The three friends set off with their muffin and thought of a plan to fight the ghost. Fisher flew away, Scruffy took the surfboard and went out to sea, and Maple just stood in the water, muffin in hand. The ghost came along. The plan took action. Scruffy came from behind on a wave, jumped off the surfboard and banged it on the ghost's head. Suddenly, Fisher swooped down and knocked the ghost under the water. The ghost washed up on shore. MUFFIN TIME! Maple held out the muffin, and dropped it on the ghost's head. It blew up.

But it wasn't over! Instantly, there were sounds of screaming and bow and arrows being shot. Maple turned around. There was all that noise, but no army! Then, Maple looked down. There it was It was an army, of ... ... ... MUFFINS! They all ran up and fought the ghost. A while later, the muffins were wiped out and weak, but the ghost was badly damaged. Then all of Maple's fighting practice came to work. He leaped into the air, and with a series of totally awesome moves, he defeated the ghost. That was it. The war was over.

"What do you want to do now?" Maple asked Scruffy and Fisher. "Let's just chill out and have some fun." replied Fisher. "Okay." the other two agreed. So, the three friends set off to enjoy their time in Hawaii... ... and go to a luau.

Honored by the Mayor!

I'm in a community service group called Boys In Action. Hopefully, you've read my post about the time we first visited City Hall. Click on the squiggle if you want to see that post. ~
We have done so many nice things for people, and for our city, such as feeding the homeless, throwing Halloween carnivals for the Canoga Park Boys and Girls Club, and cleaning up Calabasas Creek that we were honored by our new mayor, Jonathon Wolfson. We received certificates and were on T.V. as part of the city council meeting. If only all of you had been there! It was an amazing experience. If you would like to see the council meeting, click here. Find where it says "Jump to" and click on "Recognition of Boys In Action" and watch the video.
Below are a few pictures from the meeting.

Blogging Challenge!

Just a few days ago, I entered a blogging challenge. To get in, I had do to a few things. One of them was to make a post answering the following questions:
-------------------------------------------
-Why did you join the blogging challenge?
-Do you want to take part in the commenting section more than the better blogger section Why?
-What do you hope some of the activities include?
-Finally, what do you hope to get out of the challenge by the end of the ten weeks?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Obviously, (well, it seems obvious to me) this is that post. I hope you enjoy my answers. Hey, maybe you will want to join the challenge with your blog, or create one and participate. I will now answer the questions.

-I joined this challenge to learn everything I can about blogging and to improve my blog.

-I am more interested in the better blogging section than the commenting section. I'd rather focus on my blog in general, than just on the comments I receive. I am not saying I don't care about your comments. I truly love that people are supporting my blog and enjoying it.

-I hope some of the activities include writing stories, and adding on to my blog. For example, putting things on that make my blog more interesting.

-I hope that by the end of the ten weeks, my blog becomes better in many different ways, such as gathering more visitors.
